steel on steel min. bearing lengths
steel on steel min. bearing lengths
(OP)
Does anyone know where I can find minimum bearing lengths for steel on steel? I looked in the AISC manual, but could not find anything. Thank you in advance.
When was the last time you drove down the highway without seeing a commercial truck hauling goods?

RE: steel on steel min. bearing lengths
You have to define your bearing problem better than you have. Steel ball bearings actually have a fairly small bearing length and width. Under what situation would we want AISC defining a min. bearing length of steel on steel, and restricting our design options, as long as our design does not exceed the allowable bearing stress, or some other critical design consideration. I suppose that next year they will come out with an all new Design Guide #356, 738 pages, on min. allowable bearing lengths for all possible steel on steel situations. But, within two days, three conditions that they hadn’t thought about will come to light, so then they will be hawking an all new 2nd Ed. before the second printing of the 1st Ed.
