2009 IBC Requirements for Long Span Wood Trusses

(OP)
How are registered design professionals handling this code requirement involving Owners?

1704.6.2 Metal-plate-connected wood trusses spanning 60 feet or greater. Where a truss clear span is 60 feet (18,288 mm) or greater, the special inspector shall verify that the temporary installation restraint/bracing and the permanent individual truss member restraint/bracing are installed in accordance with the approved truss submittal package.

2303.4.1.3 Trusses spanning 60 feet or greater. The owner shall contract with any qualified registered design professional for the design of the temporary installation restraint/bracing and the permanent individual truss member restraint/bracing for all trusses with clear spans 60 feet or greater.

Hire a local Engineer (PE) to verify it is being done??

RE: 2009 IBC Requirements for Long Span Wood Trusses

Make sure I have an additional fee, for the design of the temporary installation restraint/bracing and the permanent individual truss member restraint/bracing for all trusses with clear spans 60 feet or greater, in my contract with the owner.

As EOR's we should take the responsibility to design our structures to support the components we allow in our design per that industry standards.

Thank you for the direct response to my discussion question. How about this IBC requirement for the registered design professional (when one exists)?

"1704.1 General. Where application is made for construction as described in this section, the owner or the registered design professional in responsible charge acting as the owner’s agent shall employ one or more approved agencies to perform inspections during construction on the types of work listed under Section 1704."

Attached is a link to a City of Phoenix manual (http://phoenix.gov/webcms/groups/internet/@inter/@...) about what they require. If you read Section 3 GENERAL GUIDELINES it should answer most of your questions about what is required under the IBC. Your Building Department may have the same or similar requirements and you should contact them for that information.
