GTAW Lift-Arc start --- Xray issue

GTAW Lift-Arc start --- Xray issue

GTAW Lift-Arc start --- Xray issue

(OP)
Hi everybody,
thanks in advance for any helpful hint.

Here's the question :
Have anyone ever experienced xray issue with a weld made with GTAW using a "Lift-Arc" start system.

Theory:
The tungsten electrode, at the ignition of the arc, would contamine the weld and make a xray-detectable defect.

Welding machine fabricator like Miller states that it is a "xray proof" system...

RE: GTAW Lift-Arc start --- Xray issue

hi can you clamp on a copper stiker plate right next to weld start arc on that and run straight into the weld.
other than that ,are you sharpening to a point and what amp range, high amps and sharp point will lose the end off the electrode you could try sharpening to point then just flaten very tip 1/2 mm to 1 mm to avoid fine tip falling off

RE: GTAW Lift-Arc start --- Xray issue

With touch lift and up-current slope capabilities, you should have no problem.
