Minimum Pressure Required to open a spring loaded Check Valve

Minimum Pressure Required to open a spring loaded Check Valve

(OP)
Dear All,
I would like to know what is the minimum pressure required to open a spring loaded check valve.
Thanks in advance...

RE: Minimum Pressure Required to open a spring loaded Check Valve

Very little, depending on valve type, construction, area and spring characteristic and orientation in piping system (plus of course pressure behind (downstream) the valve and any local resistance/sticking9.

Any reliable valve constructions/brands will have datasheets published giving general information on minimum pressure to overcome spring pressure. For low pressure systems, for instance biogas collected from different waste products, opening resistance and pressure loss could be significantthis.

If you have a particular problem: please give us all details, as there usually is a 'common practise' for optimum choice of valvetypes and 'sensible brands' depending on application.

What gerhardl said... There are many deciding factors. But basically, the spring can be designed to meet your needs. When I design our piston style checks, the customer will specify what pressure they would like the valve to open at, and we have a design a spring to meet the needs. It can be anywhere from 0.1 psi to 10 psi or higher, as long as the spring fits in the valve.

The cracking pressure can be specified on some spring loaded check valves, otherwise you get the "standard" cracking pressure. The cracking pressure should be documented on the drawings.

Good luck,
Latexman

Springs typically show a wide range of tolerances which I would never use for calculation of cracking pressures.
The manufacturing of springs is not a very precise mode without having any other method of adjustment in the valve itself.
gerhardl is right, there are many factors that count like disk surface, closing pressure, seat area geometry, etc.
