2013 Install Issue

2013 Install Issue

2013 Install Issue

(OP)
I'm having an issue with my HUL install of 2013. The install seemed to go fine just like I've done 100 times before. However, when trying to run SW after about 10 seconds if freezes and forces me to do a hard restart on my computer. I can't even get control of my task manager. 2012 worked just fine. I've done a repair install, and that didn't help. Any suggestions?

Win 7 64-bit, 6Gigs of RAM

RE: 2013 Install Issue

Which version of Win7? Home version isn't supported. I asked about this a couple of years ago and it has something to do with protocols that aren't included in home versions, or some such thing.
I'm guessing you did a clean install?

Do you mean the SW Task Scheduler or the Windows Task Manager?

Have you considered a complete, clean uninstall & reinstall of SW?

I've never used the HUL setup (single, standalone user for work & home)

I didn't do a clean install. I just did the upgrade from 2012 to 2013 like I always do. The clean install my be the next step. Limey, I was talking about the Windows task manager. When SW hangs I can't pull it up to kill the process. My only option is a hard restart.

RE: 2013 Install Issue

Dan,

Contact your VAR. My VAR sent me a new HUL for our 2013 installation, although your issues sounds like more of one of stability. If it were completely a problem with the S/N I would expect you'd get a message stating such.

RE: 2013 Install Issue

You should always do a clean install when going from one major version to the next. Too many dangling dll's and bits and pieces floating around. Question me not, for I am Jedi Master I am.

First time I've had a problem. Rx says everything is fine. Green checks across the board (with the exception of the graphics card). I'll probably try the clean install later if nobody has any eureka moments.

OK. I just threw a hail Mary, and it seems to have worked. I disabled the graphics card, opened SW, checked "Use Software OpenGL", restarted, enabled graphics card, and she works just fine.

I call a failure to disclose penalty. You failed to inform us about your graphics card at the outset, which would have resulted in a different path. I think it's only fair that you buy us a round or two.

RE: 2013 Install Issue

I use the following in a .bat file to close out of SW whenever it hangs or freezes. I usually use it after a crash also ... just to help clear any corrupted processes.

CODE

rem 10/2/06 - JJR - created: TaskKill with force the solidworks process and its assoc. process tree. <end>

rem 10/27/06 -JJR - modified: TaskKill licensing stuff from release builds too, this takes care of the journal file message when restarting release builds quickly after killing the sw process. <end>

rem flag usage: /f (forcefully terminate), /im (the image name of the process), /t (terminate entire process tree) <end>

taskkill /f /im sldworks.exe /t
taskkill /f /im solidworkslicensing.exe /t
taskkill /f /im solidworkslictemp.0001 /t
taskkill /f /im sldexitapp.exe /t
taskkill /f /im sldimscheduler.exe /t
taskkill /f /im sldboengine.exe /t

For the record, what GC are you using?

I don't have the laptop with me right now, but it is an Nvidia GeoForce card in a Dell XPS.
