Defining ISO9001 clauses on Validation and Verification in the context of pressure vessels

Defining ISO9001 clauses on Validation and Verification in the context of pressure vessels

Defining ISO9001 clauses on Validation and Verification in the context of pressure vessels

(OP)
Hi group,

I have Quality Assurance question involving pressure vessels regarding ISO9001 section 7.3.
I'm struggling understanding the difference between Design Verification and Design Validation in the context of pressure vessel design and manufacture.

Would Design Verification be considered as the production of a calculation report based on code rules or DBA ?
And would Design Validation be considered as a proof test (such as a Hydrotest) ?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks Lee

RE: Defining ISO9001 clauses on Validation and Verification in the context of pressure vessels

in very basic terms you have your assumptions reversed:
Validation is the assurance that a product (or service) meets its user's requirements, i.e. calcs for a pressure vesel design.
Verification is the determination of a product's (or service's) conformance to original specifications, i.e. hydrotest.

eyec,
Thanks for your response.
The problem Im having is that several sources state that Verification is 'does it work on paper' and Validation is 'Does it work in reality'.

Yet several other sources agree with yourself (i.e. the reverse)

my info came from iso9001 & a CQA handbook
