testing underground plastic vessels

testing underground plastic vessels

testing underground plastic vessels

(OP)
If somebody knows of one, could you please point me in the direction of a standard that states the procedure for testing of plastic vessels underground in a trafficed area.  I have ideas on how I might do it, but if there is something already established, I would much rather use that.

RE: testing underground plastic vessels

What is the vessel doing? Is it pressurised? I know the Germans use plastic water pipes (I think they are PVC and HDPE) and in the UK we use HDPE gas mains. They will both have standards relating to testing. I think I have a reference to the UK gas pipe standard somewhere..

Obviously, these things are tested for theoretical limits before they are put in the ground, then tested for leaks in the normal way other vessels are.

This vessel is for containment only.  It is not pressurized and it is sealed.  The vessel is two piece ABS (most likely) plastic.  The container serves as a vault.  Imagine putting a sealed tuperware container underground.  That is essentially it, but stronger of course.  Just an anology.

pnorder,

The ASTM has several standards for the testing of fiberglass tanks and pipes.

You could find the standard designations going to www.astm.org and searching for "fiberglass tank".
Only the titles are shown there.  The standards can be purchased in the same website.

Download from www.standards.com.au As 2566.1 and AS 2566.2 buried Flexible pipelines Design and Installation respectively. These give you all the design, installation and testing criteria required for such units. A small investment for a wealth of knowledge.
