Alternative to an assembly? Grouping parts??

Alternative to an assembly? Grouping parts??

Alternative to an assembly? Grouping parts??

(OP)
I have an assembly that contains a number of parts and disctete assemblies. Some of the separate parts are not specifically related but to clarify the screen view I often have to 'hide' some of the parts. My question is this: is it possible to group a number of selected parts so that I can make them visible or not with a single click? I don't want to make them an assembly because they are not related. In any case, if they were an assembly, modifying them in the top assembly would be more tedious.

Is this a use for configurations? I have real problems with those!

What problems do you have with configs?

RE: Alternative to an assembly? Grouping parts??

This is a perfect application for configurations. I use them that way a lot. But be aware of this - all drawing views are related to the configuration of the model or assembly displayed in that view. Bills of material are related to certain cofigurations, usually determined by the view to which they are linked. Sometimes when you attach balloons to views that do not have the same configuration as the BOM, the numbers that come up in those balloons may not be what you intended. You may have to use the manual text insertion option for those balloons.

Display states may also be of use to you.

Hands down...Display States
Isolate the items you want shown, and save that display!
This won't affect your BOMs, configs, assemblies, sub-assemblies, or anything. It's only a display state.
After it's saved, in the Config/ Display tab, click on the one you want shown.
