Promote Body to Linked Body

Promote Body to Linked Body

Promote Body to Linked Body

(OP)
Hi Guys,

Because of our recent transmission to Teamcenter we can't use promote bodies and have to convert to wave link bodies in assemblies to be able to split the drawings out from the master model. When I change the promote body to a linked body, the sub components that I have changed move to a different location. So I re constrain and re associate. This is all good but then I can't seem to select the sub component which I have changed to a linked body to be able to do a trim body?

Is there a easy way to be able to fix this?

Best Regards

Many Thanks,

RE: Promote Body to Linked Body

Mark, there are too many questions in your post.
Why can't you use promotions ?
Why does the body move when converted ?

RE: Promote Body to Linked Body

Hi Tomas,

The reason you can't use promote bodies is that when you create the new drawing dataset in Teamcenter to split the drafting from the master dataset, you can't use promote bodies. It throws an error when exporting the drawing to the new drawing dataset:

File/Export/part/part specification and select existing part/select dwg file of the same number as the master dataset/drawing selection and select SHT1/Hit OK and if promote body you will get and error and if linked body will allow you to export.

The question I want answered is why does it stayed constrained with no error but moves the sub components when I change from a promote body to a linked body. Also, Is there a quick fix or am I doing something wrong?

Also, I found this on Eng Tips so have just suppressed the sub component after making it a linked body as it leaves the original sub component as well as making a new linked body. So you have 2 parts in the model when it is a linked body.

If your using WAVE links or promotions I have to assume that you’re doing so in the context of an assembly. With that said, the difference between WAVE and promotions is this.

WAVE
Pro - You need not load the component parts to see your part in the assembly.
Con - You will see the component from which the link came and the WAVE linked body that has been somehow modified. This can be managed with reference sets, but can get confusing for some folks.

Promotion
Pro - You do not see the original body just the end item body
Con - The assembly component must be loaded to see your part in the assembly.

Many Thanks,
