API 650 plate material

API 650 plate material

API 650 plate material

(OP)
Our purchasing department ordered D coil steel for a new tank we are building per API 650. The PM is saying we can't use it. I can't find in the code (API650) where it addresses coiled steel, unless I'm overlooking it. Is it allowed? If so where does it state it is or isn't.

RE: API 650 plate material

I would ask the PM the quote the specific clause...Not withstanding API 650, it may also be addressed in a purchase specification...

RE: API 650 plate material

There is no prohibition in API 650 against using de-coiled steel. It of course needs to meet the appropriate chemical and mechanical requirements of it's grade. Much of the thin plate available is de-coiled anyway. It used to be that a temper pass was recommended.
