Part copy visibility in drafts

Part copy visibility in drafts

(OP)
Hi All,

I couldn't find a forum post for the following:
When I download and import Step files from various companies, the imported parts are often composed of a *set* of Part Copies. Apparently I can only make one of these a Base Feature. Importing as Part or Assembly doesn't seem to offer a solution.

The problem comes in the Draft: there only the Base Feature is visible. I couldn't find any view property options to fix this.

Is it possible to make Part Copies visible in the Draft (or is there a fundamental problem, e.g. that they are not true solid bodies)?

Is the Feature Recognizer during import the only possible solution?
(although I try to avoid this, as the import procedure seems sometimes to get a bit out of hand)

Regards, MT

RE: Part copy visibility in drafts

In draft, select your view, open properties and then the display tab. At the top click on the button called Parts List Options and select constructions. Now in the pathfinder below, expand out the list and make the construction surfaces visible.

Its because they are all surfaces.

To get them to display -
In draft, right click the view then Properties.
On the Display tab right click the part and select List Constructions
Select all the surfaces and then check the Show box.
Click OK then update the view.

Hi again,

Many thanks, that did the trick.

Also, while it doesn't always work, the "Heal & Stitch" is generally better at generating solids when importing data. Also, ST5's multibody improvements should eliminate issues do to non-manifold bodies in imported data too.
