generator load bank testing

generator load bank testing

generator load bank testing

(OP)
could someone summarise correct procedure for load bank testing generators (individually) and then operating in parallel.

Should procedure be:-

Individual generators
1. gradually increase load from 0-100% (kW) with generator set in droop mode and confirm correct droop characteristic
2. increase step loads 10%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100% checking all metrics (engine temps, pressure, noise and alternator current, voltage balance, temperatures). Hold at each step for duration until temperatures stabilise
3. Reverse of 2.
4. Then repeat 2 and 3 with rated .8pf and check voltage regulation from 0-100%, also monitoring voltage balance, currents and temperatures
5. Simulate largest step (motor) KVA load

Repeat 1-5 for all generators

Parallel generators
6. synchronise sets to be tested in parallel
7. gradually increase load from 0-100% (kW), check kW load sharing between machines, and current sharing
8. repeat 7 with .8pf and check kW and kvA load sharing between machines, and current sharing

comments (and corrections) on above greatfully received or a copy of someones recommended procedure.

I want to try and get clear in my head when one should be adjusting the droop settings of governor and avr trim at any particular point in the steps above.
