Punching Shear Software

Punching Shear Software

Punching Shear Software

(OP)
I didn't see anything in the searches that addressed this. I didn't find much on Google either. I know DECON has a studrail design software, but it is pretty limited in what it can do and it really only does new design, not analysis of an existing conditions. Anyone know of a software that will account for varying slab thickness and openings around the column for calculating punching shear, particularly at the end of the studrails? The section properties at the end of the studrails are a bear to calculate once openings and various thicknesses come into play.

Thanks

RE: Punching Shear Software

RAM Concept does everything you mention.

Thanks guys. I was looking for a more stand alone program where I can analyze an existing or new condition without having to build a large model.

RE: Punching Shear Software

The effect and amount of unbalanced moment that will by transfered by shear at the joint depend of boundary condition of you model aroud the studied slab-column joint.

To capture that, you generaly require a quite a accurate model with all the spans around the column joint studied.

I understand, but there are many scenarios where it isn't practical or needed to build an entire model. Take a 2 way slab designed via equivalent frame. I get all the information I need and in some cases much quicker/easier than building a full model.

RE: Punching Shear Software

True, as long you don't forget to combine both unbalanced loading in strong and weak direction of the joint.

Generally, frame equavalent method software such as spSlab only do one direction at a time.

RE: Punching Shear Software

I've looked for similar - I don't think there is anything out there that you are looking for. Make a spreadsheet. Although at the end of the day you most likely will need a SAFE or Ram model to get the unbalanced moments anyway - but the spreadsheet at least allows you to add features that aren't accounted for in the programs. I've also found the program results to be strange at times, so a spreadsheet helps as a double check - for example results in the new SAFE 12 are very different than versions prior to V12 for the exact same model (i.e. export a model from V12 and open into V8 and see a big difference for corners and edge columns).

RE: Punching Shear Software

Rapt will handle what you are asking for but you have to model the strips.

I often have to look at an existing condition with a very specific set of slab penetrations and thickness steps around a column that also has studrails. I don't know about RAM, but I can't get detailed calculations out of SAFE so I can see if I agree with how the software is handling things. Calculating the properties of the section out at the end of the rails is a terrible experience. I have not had luck building a spreadsheet to handle the 1001 variables possible, but I guess I will keep plugging through. Thanks all.

RE: Punching Shear Software

Dcarr, I have been working on a generic spreadsheet. I can share with you next week, am traveling now. Maybe we can clean it together and make it available for all in this forum.

Slickdeals,

That sounds good since I can't seem to find the time to get one done on my own.
