Expansion Joint Spacing for Retaining walls
Expansion Joint Spacing for Retaining walls
(OP)
Does anybody know what is the maximum expansion joint spacing for cantilever retaining walls? My seniors(in previous work place) used to recommend 50 ft. o/c. I heard from some people that it can be up to 100 ft o/c. I appreciate your help.

Thanks for your input. According to Joints in concrete construction (ACI 2243r) code/manual, movements in the wall can be expected up to 0.5 inches if we space the expansion joints at 100 ft o.c. My question is do we need to calculate the spacing based on the expected temp. change or is it a random selection of 100/80/90 ft?
Thanks
