3 phase indicators/lights/meters to use in test setup instead of actually connecting LIM's

3 phase indicators/lights/meters to use in test setup instead of actually connecting LIM's

(OP)
I am working on a test setup in our shop where the entire system is connected together to complete our newly structured FAT's, we want to see the entire setup running in the shop before shipping it out to the field, this system is comprised of over 40 linear induction motors and we cannot connect all those at once (space, shipping cost etc) so I'm looking for an alternative to use instead of a motor. We have 8 VFD's that connect to the LIMs, all the other components such as proxes, photo-eyes etc. are able to be mounted on a test set we built...does anyone know of a rather inexpensive visual indicator/light/meter..something to just display that there is 3 phase power present at "x" contactor. Initially we will use a phase tester to check the output of each VFD and physical connections to all contactors/motor connections, after that is tested, I just want a visual indicator to see that 3 phase is energized where each LIM would actually be wired in the field. We can have up to 15 motors firing in 6 to 7 seconds so I'd like to see a sequential lighting of the indicator in the place where the LIM would be to verify the correct contactor closed and at the same time, all other LIMs were not given voltage.

Thanks,

Robert

RE: 3 phase indicators/lights/meters to use in test setup instead of actually connecting LIM's

As you are using other means to verify phase rotation sequence and only need a present / not-present indicator I think you could use two relays, one coil across L1-L2 and the other across L2-L3, with their contacts in series to control a lamp. You might want to consider an LED lamp considering the response time you need.

RE: 3 phase indicators/lights/meters to use in test setup instead of actually connecting LIM's

If you have checked out your equipment individually you probably need only monitor one phase to show sequencing. Put a lamp across the coil of the contactor. That will show proper sequencing. In the unlikely event that one pole of a contactor or VFD fails that will be picked up during commissioning or during individual function checking prior to shipping.

Thanks guys. That is true, one phase should be fine to illuminate a light/indicator when active since all phases will be initially tested thoroughly in the shop and tested again during commissioning. Easy enough, Thanks.
