lettering or artwork on surfaces
lettering or artwork on surfaces
(OP)
Hello NX Community,
I've recently switched from Solid edge to NX 8.0 I use to add artwork and lettering to my models and have found it to be more complicated within NX. The end goal is to place text on a desired surface and have that text be smart enough to allow for solid color fill. An example would be a part that is painted black with white filled in text on the part. Also, the text needs to be seen in the drawing and only be visible in the correct view and not show thru in all views even when hidden by other objects. Anyone have a good solution for this? Your help would be much appreciated.
thanks,
Brad Petersen

RE: lettering or artwork on surfaces
Insert -> Curve -> Text...
You can place the text ON the face of a body. Once there the 'text' can be used to define actual features, like raised or embossed lettering, or you can use...
Insert -> Trim -> Divide Face...
... which will create individual faces for each letter who's color can be modified to whatever you wish it to be, like this simple example:

In case you require to play with the visibility in views also then one more option can be:-
Create a text on the surface.Extrude it (i choose .001 mm depth normal to surface....but you can use VIEW DIRECTION according to your convenience too.).Apply the required color to the body.
As far as drafting is concerned ....keep the text and the extruded solid in a seperate layer and then using VISIBLE IN VIEW OPTION choose to hide it in views you donot require it.
I am attaching a snap herewith.Hope it will be of some help to you.
In case you require it just for visualization (and not drafting) then NX offers lot of good tools.
Best Regards
Kapil

See the attached example. I had no problem creating divided faces using text strings which contained an Arial 'S'.
