Load Case Generation

Load Case Generation

Load Case Generation

(OP)
I am generating the factored loads per ASCE 7-10 for design of simple spread foundations. Is it improper to design the foundations ignoring uplift on the footing and maximizing the dead load and the conversely just considering uplift and using the larger foundation size from the two different cases?

RE: Load Case Generation

As long as, "by observation" that uplift is not an issue, I would suggest this would be
O
K.

RE: Load Case Generation

For vertical downward loads, you can ignore the net effect of wind uplift. When computing uplift on the foundation, you cannot ignore the dead load of the foundation. For overturning, you will obviously need to consider all loads.

RE: Load Case Generation

EXISTING WATER WILL LEAD TO DESIGN WATER SECTION ,in case tension flexure towards water

uplift will contribute beside soil reaction in incresing stresses on footing and the own weight of footing will be negligible in value against them

RE: Load Case Generation

I think what the above is saying is that if the foundation is below the water table, you have to decrease the dead load of any foundation material to the bouyant weight?
