force update of drawing border attributes on save
force update of drawing border attributes on save
(OP)
Happy New Year!
Our drawing borders contain lots of attributes that are pulled from various places, which provide details of material, finish etc. The drawing borders are completely customized and are controlled by GRIP. If we update an attribute, for example material, then in order to ensure that the change of material is pulled through to the drawing, we have a another customised button (Update Attributes) which again is GRIP based that refreshes all the attributes and ensures that they are fully up to date.
The problem this gives us, is that sometimes people will release drawings that have not had the attributes updated after they may have changed a material for example and not pressed the Update Attribute button, which means that the information on the drawing is incorrect. I have done a couple of trials with macros and journals to try and incorportate the customised Update Attributes command and a Save command, however it appears it is not possible to initiate GRIP based functions using journals or macros.
Therefore my question is, is there another way to force the attributes on or drawing borders to update as part of a Save operation to take the onus of the CAD user?
Many thanks
Si

RE: force update of drawing border attributes on save
Tools -> Update -> Update for External Change
That being said, starting with NX 8.0 we have significantly enhanced Attributes, including making improvements to the update mechanism, which has addressed most all of the outstanding issues with respect to delayed and/or incomplete updating of Attributes.

RE: force update of drawing border attributes on save
For example, when a user performs a save on a drawing file, we have it set up to run a grip program that checks to make sure the drawing border and titleblock are the latest. The only problem with this approach is it runs after the save is complete, not before...

The option to update for external change is not avaiable in drafting as far as I can see.

So with the pre action, can I get it to fire the piece of grip we already have for updating the attriutes on the drawing border prior to saving the part?
Many thanks guys

RE: force update of drawing border attributes on save
Theoretically, yes it should work. We created a new menu entry and placed the menuscript files in the network startup folder. The next time everyone started NX, they had access to the new menu. However, we are a small/medium sized team working with native NX at a single site; I realize you are part of a large multi-site team working with teamcenter, so I don't know how that will affect your implementation...
