Main electrical pump installation

Main electrical pump installation

Main electrical pump installation

(OP)
Hello,

Please, I would like your opinion on the fire pump installation,

flow for the main pump (electrical)is equal to 128 m3 / h, flow calculed as per APSAD R1,

For the installation, I must installed a pump (flow=128 m3 / h) or two (02) pumps 60m3 / h each in parallel?

Thank you in advance

R.B (Mechanical engineer)

RE: Main electrical pump installation

As far as NFPA 20 states, there is no limitation for using single or multiple pumps arrangement, and you can check in the figure A.5.19.1.2 the recommended layout for a multiple pump station. However, I think that a 128 m3/hr (Maybe a 40 Hp motor) pump is quite small to be replaced for 2 x 64 m3/hr pumps. NFPA 20 states some limitations and tests for pumps over 1135 m3/hr, and that gives an idea of how small is your pump. Furthermore, NFPA 20 do states many provisions for suctions and controls that add some problems to be solved in case of installing a multiple pump station.
