I am new in my organisation and i'm still trying to update myself in the design of hydraulic structures.Pls can any water engineer tell me the connection between a reservoir volume, design flood and design head? How do i determine the design of a small warth dam? Also, based on your experience, how do u determine the peak flood with just the metereological data of a vicinity?

RE: Spillway design

Your question requires several college classes worth of information to answer properly. If you didn't have those in school, consider buying this and reading it cover to cover to get you started:

First, please improve your writing skills. The use of "u" and "i" and poor spacing between sentences is annoying.3eyes

I don't know what a warth dam is (maybe we call it something else out here.)
WRT the design flood, that is determined by the hazard classification.
Here we require the spillway to pass the "design flood" of a 1 percent storm if the dam is a low hazard
If it is significant hazard it must pass 1/2 pmf
If it is high hazard it must pass pmf.

The hazard classification is based on the consequences of a clear weather breach.
The consequences of a clear weather breach are based on a number of factors including volume, dam height, material etc.

As always, your situation may vary slightly, call your state Safety of Dams engineer for further clarification.
