FE Exam

FE Exam

(OP)
I took the FE my last semester of school and unfortunately I did not make it. I have looked online and seen some study material that is available.

I am planning on taking it in the Spring(2013). Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations on study materials to use.

RE: FE Exam

Think I used a Princeton Review book. And found the exam much easier than the review material.

RE: FE Exam

Go to NCEES.org. They have some stuff. And there is a company PPI2(I think) that guarantess you will pass if you buy their books. Not sure how that works?

Ok, awesome. I have been to the NCEES website and downloaded the maual and reference. I have been looking an old EIT review manual by Michale Lindeburg. I am afraid that it may be outdated, sixth edition. Its the one my boss used when he took it. It has practice problems but i cant find the solutions.

Thanks guys for the insight.

RE: FE Exam

I'd go to amazon and buy the newest version of Lindeburg's manuals. Also see if you can pick up the practice problems and a sample exam or 2. I found the EIT (now FE) exam to be a lot harder than the PE exam since it covered a lot more topics. In order to make a little more money, the solutions to the manual are in another book. It's a small price to pay for opening up the doors by having your FE (and hopefully your PE).

p.s. Don't be discouraged for not passing it your first time. I know several people who didn't pass the first time. At least this time you know what to expect.

RE: FE Exam

Back when I used the Lindeburg book (mid-1980's), the Solutions Manual was a separate paperback book that you paid extra for.

I agree with zelgar, invest in the current versions of both.

RE: FE Exam

Do yourself a favor and buy from www.ppi2pass.com Civil Discipline Specific Review for the FE/EIT exam if you are planing to take Civil exam in the afternoon. Solve all the problems in this book twice and the afternoon section will be piece of cake. This definitely saved me on the exam because I had probably 50 questions answered correct in the afternoon. I took this exam after being out of school for 20+ years and for me to study over topics I saw last time back in the 90's was a real nightmare. To make a long story short, I failed twice before taking the exam serious. First time I did not study at all and the second time I kind of put focus on studying for the morning session (Big mistake). The third time after going through the results from my first two attempts I figured I can always score 60-70 points in the morning session but the key to success was to score great in the second part. This is where the book I listed above came as a great help. Good luck in April!!!

Thanks lakataklinger and every one that posted, this has been very helpful. I looked at ppi2 and with the FE review by Lindeburg I think I will do ok. Will let you know how I done.

RE: FE Exam

JBcveg:

NCEES supplies the FE reference handbook as a guide during the exam. Make yourself very familiar with this handbook, since most of the formulas that you need during the exam are all present in this handbook. Some questions dont even need formulas and are directly answered by the handbook. Its just a matter of knowing were to look. Good luck.
