Professional Advice on Matrix and Fiber Interaction

Professional Advice on Matrix and Fiber Interaction

Professional Advice on Matrix and Fiber Interaction

(OP)
Dear professional and experts

I would like to ask you regarding the interaction between fiber and matrix at micromodelling level of composite, CFRP T800 used in most of aircraft application
is it cohesive at the interface between the matrix and fiber? or just normal tie constraint?

many thanks in advance for your reply and insight, really appreciate it

RE: Professional Advice on Matrix and Fiber Interaction

I am not an expert in this area so you may very well disregard my 2 cents: If there are discrete fibers, then I'd imagine cohesive property to be more relevant at the interface. Tie constraint will make more sense, I guess, if the applied load/deformation result in delamination stresses/strains 'far' below the yield values. [As you can tell, I am not familiar with the correct terminology.]

RE: Professional Advice on Matrix and Fiber Interaction

Could you just assume a perfect bond and use a coincident mesh?

dear brian
are you saying that assuming perfect bonding and zero thickness cohesive interaction?
can you advice what do you mean by coincident mesh?

many thanks brian, you are a star = )

RE: Professional Advice on Matrix and Fiber Interaction

dear ice breaker

many thanks for your advice
in terms of fracture mechanics and numerical simulation, is there any big difference between cohesive interaction with separation when the interaction becomes more than traction toughness, and another case is tie constraint in the initial and beginning then implying penalty for normal and shear direction (friction) to allow separation after interaction
hope you understand what i mean

many thanks for your expertise
really appreciate it
