shadowed floor area NFPA 13R
shadowed floor area NFPA 13R
(OP)
In NFPA 13R 2010 section 6.2.3.5.4 mentions of shadowed floor area. How do you figure
a shadowed floor area? I think the answer would depend on 1. size of obstruction
2. distance of obstruction from a wall or sprinkler coverage 2. distance of obstruction from sprinkler.
Am I right?
Thanks.

RE: shadowed floor area NFPA 13R
From your description the way to figure the area is a simple matter in most cases. I've attached a drawing to give an example, each shaded area is a shadow created from spray pattern in the bathroom. To calculate their area is a simple matter of figuring the area of a triangle (http://www.mathopenref.com/trianglearea.html).
I hope this answered your question.

So what Jon says is accurate and it should be a pretty simple calculation, usually a triangle or the sum of some simple geometric shapes.

I just draw a line from the sprinkler to the edge of the obstruction and project it to the wall. It works pretty easy. I hope the description makes sense.
