Rotary Vane Pump Design

Rotary Vane Pump Design

(OP)
Hi everyone,

I am investigating a new application for a rotary vane pump. We are in the process of doing the background research and I am looking for any recommendations for PD pump design books that include (or specifically deal with) vane or sliding vane pumps.

Any recommendations or advice would be welcomed.

Thanks,
Neys

You will need several books on tribology.

Hi Mike,

Thanks, I appreciate that the biggest problem we will be up against is correct material selection for the pumped fluid. We have a development budget that should allow us to do comparison testing as part of the project.

Do you have much experience of developing these pumps?

Thanks,
Neys

RE: Rotary Vane Pump Design

No.
I have some experience burning them up.
I have some experience loosening them after they've corroded and seized.

I do have some experience developing other pumps with similar tribological challenges.

Note that there are at least four challenging areas:
Vane tip to housing periphery/cam surface.
Vane flanks to rotor groove flanks.
Vane end faces to housing cheekplates.
Rotor end faces to housing cheekplates.
