Gas Reactants at a plant

Gas Reactants at a plant

(OP)
Hi,
We are working on a Senior Mini Design Project, creating a vinyl chloride plant. We were unsure what to assume about our incoming reactants. We need roughly 75 kmol/hr of Ethylene, 40 kmol/hr of chlorine, and 20 kmol/hr of oxygen. I have done some basic calculations, and it seems that bringing these into the plant in some sort of gas container would be impossible, so I was wondering, would we assume that they could be piped in from somewhere, or would we have to buy them liquefied. Is it reasonable to assume they could be piped in?
Thanks for the help,
Jeremy

This site has rules against posting homework. Pipeline would be possible for ethylene and oxygen in an area like the USA gulf coast, but chlorine would be by rail.

RE: Gas Reactants at a plant

You could pipe them in if you had a nearby source but the volumes aren't likely sufficient to justify long pipeline.

The oxygen could come in liquefied by tanker truck, be stored in storage tanks and vaporized as needed for your process.

Chlorine can be delivered by rail or truck.

Also google chlorine institute.

Looks like ethylene can also be shipped by truck or rail
