Hi all,
I'm brand new to this site and all forums for that matter.
I'm designing a rectangular storage unit that is basically a control station. The building is a box 10' wide x 30' long x 11'-6" tall.
My main question for now is designing the roof. The roof is made of G90 galvanized 11 gauge steel 'C' panels (oriented to look like 'U's) welded together with plates spanning the tops of the panels across the openings. In section, the panels look like a straight line with 'T's on top at every 15". The panels are 4-1/8" deep. Then, they will weld the plates to the tops of the 'T's, which are 3" total width.
I need to submit calcs and would like to know what formulas to use to design the plate. I'm stating the plates will be supported longways on the panels (2 sides). A computer program would also be useful, but I would rather show my work by hand for this. I use Alex Tomanovich spreadsheets and Engineering International Spreadsheets, but neither has a spreadsheet for this. I used Alex Tomanovich BEAMCOL9.xls "BeamCol(Built-Up)" tab for the panels.
Even if someone could point me to somewhere in the AISC 13th would be helpful, but again, I need calcs. I just need to show that the 11 gauge plate will be sufficient to withstand the roof loads of 25psf dead and 30 psf live.

To generate the section properties, I uwould use ShapeBuilder 6.0 which you use on a trial basis for 30 days if you like. We bought the program and use it all the time.

As for the formulas, you will need to check the bending stresses of the whole welded assembly, and local buckling of the top radius section. I would not expect shear to be a problem. And you will need to use the Light Gage Steel Manual for the design check.
