Chilled water primaryûsecondary system bypass

Chilled water primaryûsecondary system bypass

(OP)
Greetings,
I have four chillers system (three 223 TR (446GPM) and one 183 TR (364gpm)), the bypass between primary pumps header (one pump dedicated for each chiller) and secondary pumps header is 8". I was reading about bypass and chillers sequence of operating, I found out that Train recommends that "the bypass line should be sized for 110 to 115 percent of the largest chiller's design flow rate". Which is 513GPM in my case and 6" bypass is enough. I want to know is there any problem in chillers operation and life if I kept the bypass 8".

RE: Chilled water primaryûsecondary system bypass

No problem. A very large oversize like 24" or more might promote parasitic circulation, but 8" will not do anything wrong.

thank you
