Translating IDEAS to UG

Translating IDEAS to UG

Translating IDEAS to UG

(OP)
Hi there,

I am looking for some information on translating files from IDEAS(customer software) into UG(our software). Step and igs have been rather troublesome. I have heard that they are both owned by the same company, and that previously you could open an IDEAS file in UG and vise versa?

The main issue is that the customer is designing solid stampings as a skin model, not a solid, and they assign some sort of co-ordinate system to the part to show the direction of thickness, does anyone know of a way to transfer that into UG?

I have access to all versions of UG, catia v5 and solidworks.

Thanks

RE: Translating IDEAS to UG

Have you tried Exporting out an XPK file out of I-Deas? In I-Deas Go to File and then Interoperate. Or you could also try exporting a parasolid out of I-Deas. Also are you running I-deas and NX native or within teamcenter? You could also look at exporting out the step file as a 214 instead of doing the 203 flavor setting.

RE: Translating IDEAS to UG

We migrated from I-Deas to UG several years ago.
I have thousands of I-Deas jobs backed up on DVD in I-Deas package file format.
I requested the CMM (Content Migration Manager) software package from Siemens which will convert I-deas package data into UG with almost all the history, drawings etc...
I do not try to bring in the I-Deas data into TC, I just run it stand alone since we usually only need it for reference.

Currently running UGNX8 on Win64 with TCUA8.3.
