Minimal required thickness in mm for TEMA
Minimal required thickness in mm for TEMA
(OP)
I'm working with the TEMA norm in the design of a Heat Exchanger.
As known in the sections 3.13 are indicated minimal required thickness for vessels in inches.
If I want to use metric dimensions I mean: 6mm instead of 6,35mm (1/4") or 12mm instead of 12,7mm (1/2"), since this dimentions are less than the minimal but equivalents. Is there in any place of the TEMA norm detailed if we can change the imperial to the closest metric dimention?
Thanks in advance,
Peter.

RE: Minimal required thickness in mm for TEMA
RCB-3.13 (326):
Inquiry: Minimum thickness requirement fro Carbon Steel from 30-100 Inch -12.7 mm which is very stringent. Some time actual thickness as per Section VIII div 1, is 8mm for given range of dia but we have to take 14 mm plate as 12.7 mm is not available and 12 mm is not acceptable. Can we use less thickness if agreed by our customer as per ASME section VIII.
Reply: As stated on page viii of the Standards, "Notes to Users of the TEMA Standards", exceptions to the Standards are allowed upon agreement between the purchaser and fabricator and such exceptions are documented

Mike
