Pad Foundation Design

(OP)
Hi Guys

I have a 100x100mm SHS colum with a downward force of 185.95kn the ground is solid rock at about 1100mm deep
what size pad foundation would i need

RE: Pad Foundation Design

Since you are bearing on rock, your footing thickness will be driven by the punching shear capacity (based on the size of your base plate).

This is a simple calc and you shouldn't need help from this forum to figure it out.

Thanks

I have worked out the Bearing pressure but i am not sure of the bearing capacity of the rock

RE: Pad Foundation Design

According to presumptive bearing values in IBC Chapter 18 (Table 1806.2), the values can range from 4000 psf (sedimentary, weathered rock) to 12000 psf (crystalline bedrock). Don't you have a Geotech on board that can provide you these values?
