Countour - Nodal vs Elemental

Countour - Nodal vs Elemental

Countour - Nodal vs Elemental

When I plot my contour I can choose between nodal and elemental. Nodal stresses are much lower. Do you know why this discrepancy? How is "Elemental" calculated?

Thank you,

Whyowhy

RE: Countour - Nodal vs Elemental

i think it's odd that the element stress are higher than the nodal ...

element stresses are usually calculated at the element CG based on the nodal stresses
(or more precisely, stresses are based on the results from the integration points which are within the element boundary; nodal results are extrapolated from these, element results might be the average of the integration point results or the nodal results).

either way element stresses should be lower than nodal.

you're right, I mixed Average vs Maximum.

Thanks,
