PWHT Coupons

(OP)
To All,

A.For ordering plate from the mill a Plate material specification is been issued.
B. One of the requirement for ordering is a PWHT coupon specifying the time and temperature it has to undergo .

1. For Item A - How would i know if the Plate material specification our engineering issued is correct?
How to check it against what?
2. For Item B - Where does the temperature and time came from? Let say temp = 607 C +/- 13 C and Time = 2.5hrs.
- How to determine the cycle needed?
I have made a PWHT procedure for 28mm thick holding time is 1 Hr and 8 minutes.

Thanks in advance

This is determined by your engineering department and based on specific application. You compare the plate material specification on the PO issued by your Engineering Department with what is actually received. General requirements for plate purchase are found in ASME SA-20. All of the information is there to ensure proper information at the time the plate is ordered and recepit inspection. You should have a material test report.

Either from a construction code or standard or customer/client engineering specification.

Make it one hour and 15 minutes hold time at the specified PWHT temperature range. Did you include ramp rates for heating and cooling?????
