Model a shaft / bearing

Model a shaft / bearing

Model a shaft / bearing

(OP)
I am trying to analyze the misalignment under load, but am having trouble with the shaft / bearing modeling. I have the bearing center connected to the bearing housing with beam elements. Also, the shaft is modeled with beam elements. To connect the shaft with the bearing center, elements I've tried: cbrush with high stiffness on every dof except tx, rigid with dependent node on the shaft and independent node at bearing center, released dof on beam element that connect the shaft beam to the bearing center beam.

The problem that I have is that under load, the displacement of the shaft puts the shaft to the side of the center of the bearing, more that 0.04", and 0.04" is the maximum allowed lateral misalignment for the flexible coupling that is adjacent to the bearing.

In summary, I am modeling a shaft with beam elements. The beam elements next to bearing have been connected to the bearing with different elements. But, consistently, under deformation, the shaft moves off the bearing center enough to exceed allowable misalignment.

The drive train has two types of bearings, one would allow axial displacement, and one does not, corresponding to shoulder / clip shaft or straight shaft.

I should have mentioned that the "bearing supported node" remains in the center of the bearing. The offset displacement occurs in the element that that connects the shaft node to the bearing node, and I've tried cbrush, rigid, and beam with tx pin released.

I'm running femap with nx nastran.
