Semi-Elliptical crack

Semi-Elliptical crack

Dear All,

I want to model a finite plate having a central semi-elliptical surface crack using ANSYS. I am still very new user, please help me to figure out how can I do that. I highly appreciate your help.

Thanks.

RE: Semi-Elliptical crack

does ANSYS have a 3D crack tip element ? or a J-integral routine ?

have you read the manual ?

have you made a FE model before ?

there are some good references available (free) through NASA on this topic, search "JC Newman".

Yes I modeled a countersunk hole. Ansys has solid185 quarter point element which can be used to define the mesh at the crack tip.

RE: Semi-Elliptical crack

ok, so what's not explained in the manuals ?

How to model this crack and define the mesh around it
