ASME B31.8 Pressure Limit

ASME B31.8 Pressure Limit

ASME B31.8 Pressure Limit

(OP)
Hi,

does anyone know if B31.8 (Gas pipeline code) puts a limit on the design pressure?

i.e. is it valid for all pressure ranges? or does it cut off at 100 bar as BS 8010 does?

Thanks every one.
JM

RE: ASME B31.8 Pressure Limit

No stated pressure limit. See limits on flanges ANSI#900, 1500, 2500.

RE: ASME B31.8 Pressure Limit

BigInch is correct. Maximum operating pressure (MOP) is governed by the flange rating of the pipe system. You can use either CSA Z245.15 or API 6D for those ratings, 150 thru to 2500.

The maximum testing pressure is 1.50 MOP in most cases. I've seen 1.25 MOP when agreed to by two parties, which is allowable under the code if it stated so and agreed to in writing.

Cockroach
