Water seal pot on Olefins flare

Water seal pot on Olefins flare

Water seal pot on Olefins flare

(OP)
Hi,

Could be installed a water seal pot on a flare systems for an olefins plant (steam cracker)? Some HC can reach low temperatures (below 32 ºF) when they are flared, and this can freeze water in the seal pot, which blocks gas exit to flare stack.

But I have seen Olefins plants flare systems with water seal pot, started up several years ago, which have been designed according with standars by renamed engineering firms so I suppose I'm not considering something.

Could anyone clarify this?

Thanks for your reply.

RE: Water seal pot on Olefins flare

Not knowing the details, I can only guess that the water seals were on flare legs where the gas temperatures were not expected to be less than 32F.

I sure wouldn't want to have a water seal and plan on blowing very cold gas through it.
