Distribution losses allocation to Distributed Generators

Distribution losses allocation to Distributed Generators

Distribution losses allocation to Distributed Generators

(OP)
Hello everyone,

Nowadays I am dealing with the following problem.
Assume an MV connection meshed grid with known configuration and technical characteristics, connecting many distributed generators through a unique "exit" at one bay of an MV/HV substation.

We are metering the energy produced at each generation output (locally) as well as the energy flowing out of the connection grid at the substation level i.e at the connection grid's exit.
We know thus the total active energy losses for a time period L (kWh) of the connection grid knowing the energy at the grid exit (i.e. at the substation MV bay) and subtracting the sum of all generators' active energy output.

I would like to allocate a part of above L to each generator so as to calculate and bill the "net" energy produced instead of the "gross" active energy of each generator.
I am looking for a practical if approximate way of doing this (on an hourly or daily basis), not necessarily one that provides the exact theoretical solution to the problem.

Any ideas?

RE: Distribution losses allocation to Distributed Generators

Model the system on a load flow program. Model one generator at a time, serving load at the "exit" with no other generators running. Calculate the losses for each generator running by itself. Proportion actual losses while running according to the calculated losses for each generator.

Thanks jqhrist.Nice idea.
Any other suggestion?

RE: Distribution losses allocation to Distributed Generators

For each generator, use the average (or RMS) output weighted by the distance from the sub station and divide the losses in that ratio. Quick and easy but if operating decisions are to be made on the basis of the losses of individual generators, jghrist's suggestion may be a better choice.
