IECEX certified equipment in NEC 505 clasified areas

IECEX certified equipment in NEC 505 clasified areas

Hi, can anyone explain if IECEx certified equipment can be used in hazardous areas clasified under NEC 2011 code 505. From the code it seems that the marking on the equipment needs to be AEx instead of IECEx. This mean the manufacture of the equipment needs to certified its equipment on the US too, even if the zone clasification is allow by the code?. Regards, thanks.

RE: IECEX certified equipment in NEC 505 clasified areas

you are correct, the marking must be AEx then and an IECEx marked equipment will not do.

Thanks Vincent, but how the manufacture of the equipment get the AEx marking?. It needs to certified the equipment under IECEX standards?.

RE: IECEX certified equipment in NEC 505 clasified areas

Hi,

the manufacturer should get in touch with a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTL).
For a list of NRTL see https://www.osha.gov/dts/otpca/nrtl/

IECEx (or ATEX) certifcation will not give you an AEx marking.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Cheers

Vincent
