Cooling water flow measurement device

Cooling water flow measurement device

Cooling water flow measurement device

(OP)
Currently we are using ultrasonic flow meter for measurment of cooling water flow in the chemical plant. However, for the lower diameter line size (like less than 3 inch dia) ,We are not sure about the accuracy of the measurement.

Any better instrument which can measure accurate in such a lower cooling water pipe.

Request to give suggestions/Best practices sharing if any on this.

With Warm Regards,
Thanks.

RE: Cooling water flow measurement device

I use V-Cones (intrusive) or Mag Meters (non-intrusive) for pipe that size. If I'm confident that the pipe is going to run full (e.g., with a control valve downstream of the meter) then I like Mag Meters a lot. If I don't have a good way to insure that the line is full then V-Cone meters are my first choice.

"Belief" is the acceptance of an hypotheses in the absence of data.
"Prejudice" is having an opinion not supported by the preponderance of the data.
"Knowledge" is only found through the accumulation and analysis of data.

I've used Siemens clamp-on ultrasonics on chilled water with great results, usually the 'energy' meter version with RTDs for BTU calculation, but the velocity/flow rate functionality is the same for standard flow rate measurement.

Why do you think the ultrasonic is not correct? Siemens uses different transducers for different pipe sizes. Does yours?

Magmeters are mature products, incredibly reliable and accurate (with a full pipe and no air), but you do have to cut the pipe for installation.

These folks were just advertised in a magazine I was reading. They claim to meter down to less than 1" piping.

When you say you aren't sure the meter isn't accurate below 3", why do you suspect the meter? Have you any small installations in the plant you can calculate the water flow from say a heat balance around a heat exchanger and compared it to your meter reading?

RE: Cooling water flow measurement device

As an instrumentation and flow meter supplier, we've provided magnetic flow meters or paddlewheel flow sensors for such applications; both options can offer good accuracy if sized correctly

Thanks to all.
