DOF Springs orientation

DOF Springs orientation

DOF Springs orientation

(OP)
the DOF spring property card doesn't have an option to choose a Coordinate System.

How do you define stiffness's in a particular orientation?

I've tried defining node output CSys, but I'm not sure if this is right.

Thanks,

W

RE: DOF Springs orientation

if you can't define a element CID or a nodal CID then wouldn't that leave the global CID as the default ?

RE: DOF Springs orientation

(OP)
i guess so, but what defines the DOF spring stiffness orientation then? is it the nodes definition CSys? or is it the nodes output Csys? each node can be defined in a different CSys, it can get confusing.

RE: DOF Springs orientation

the dof spring propert card controls how the freedoms at each node are connected.

a simple x spring would connect x1 with x2.

looks like global axes ... runa test to verify ?

RE: DOF Springs orientation

(OP)
does this mean I am locked in global CSys?

RE: DOF Springs orientation

no you could use mulitple elements, each presenting a component

or use the damper/spring element which is a CBUSH and allows local CID references
