private and external attribute on templates ?

private and external attribute on templates ?

private and external attribute on templates ?

(OP)
Hello

This is a screenshot from a short video on NX templates at Youtube.
Could you explain me when to use the external attribute and when the private one, please?

NX help says:

Quote:

Use the External column on the workbench to define which dialog box components are exposed as public. When a component is marked as External Input or External Output, it is displayed to the consumer in the template dialog box. When a component is marked as Private, it is shown only inside the Product Template Studio application.

But from the preview (at right) it's not clear for me what's the difference.

Thanks

RE: private and external attribute on templates ?

if you were to change from 'private' to 'external input/output' this will only show up on the 'Template Explorer" window that pops up when you start PTS. why would you want these values to be shown?? for some one new to NX it helps to show what the value is in its current condition, without fully opening PTS or going into the Expressions window. you cannot change the values in this window but is just a way to show what value each expression is currently.
the difference between external input and output is this... if the expression is one that is an input- one that you can key in the value, then it is an 'external input', if the expression is a resultant, ie and meassurement, then it is an 'external output'.
when you change each expression to either input or output you will see in the Template Explorer window a red arrow beside the value, they are in different directions. in the end it is up to you whether you want to show these or not.
