Garage Alteration.New Eyebrow [Allowable Deflection]

Hello All:

Would like to know what deflection figures you use when altering a frame structure (in this case a garage) that will have a new load due to an above doorway new architectural feature (eyebrow, semicircular arched wall). Was thinking of L/360. I am investigating existing header [2]2x10's. Also, the eyebrow will also impose new load due to the curvature of that portion of the roof and snow drift.

Regards,

Rarebug R.A.

What is the span?

16'

At 16' your aimed-for d would be around 1/2" (seems reasonable for garage doors) but would 2 no. 2x10s be enough? If the eyebrow is in the middle it will, as you say, cause a build-up of snow and potentially be a considerable extra point load around the centre of the beam.
