Changing to a new operating system

Changing to a new operating system

Changing to a new operating system

(OP)
Hi there,

What is the procedures to be followed in removing windows 98 operating system and replacing it with windows XP on my computer? Is the process the same as when one is removing windows XP and replacing it with windows 98?

RE: Changing to a new operating system

I recommend re-formatting the "C" drive so that there are no "leftovers" to cause problems.

If you have just one big "C" on your hard drive then you won't be very keen on this idea, but if you have your hard drive partitioned it's not too painful. I found some time ago that using a relatively small partition for "C", loading all other data and apps into other drive partitions, and just keeping the Windows stuff in "C" allows you to easily re-format and re-load if (or more like when) Windows gets screwed up.

RE: Changing to a new operating system

If you put the Windows XP cd in your computer, it will boot from that and should give you the option of reformatting the drive (choose NTFS)

Make sure you run the compatibility checker from the windows CD first though, as it will tell you what programs will work under XP, and if any hardware you have won't.

Been running XP since last november now, and I haven't had one crash. And trust me, I've thrown all sorts of crap at it.....
