Hi,

Do you know why in ASME II, SA 538 is permitted for use with ASME III and not permitted for ASME VIII?

Thank youu for your help.

RE: SA 538

SA 538 was withdrawn in 1989 and dealt with pressure vessel plates, alloy steel, preciptation and maraging steel. The nukes must have wanted this material for a specific application. It is not uncommon for code committees to not have acceptance of material across the board because of service application or the use of material was needed by Section III, in lieu of Section VIII.
