Can we use SS410 instead of 17-4-PH in a control valve which is installed in steam service?

RE: 17-4-PH trim material

What is the temperature of your steam?

@ba02ye
360 centigrade.

Yes this is a globe valve with follow conditions:
inlet pressure=40 barg
operating temperature=410 centigrade
plug material:F6NM+stellite
cage material:17-4-PH
we are going to replace the cage with ss410.is it possible or not?

RE: 17-4-PH trim material

While 410 stainless steel has the strength component - it lacks the corrosion resistance properties of 17-4 PH.
17-4 PH would be preferrable over 410 stainless steel.

RE: 17-4-PH trim material

add more to "valveexpert":
you should choose 17-4PH HT1150 hardened cage, which is good for high temperature (410 C deg) erosion-corrosion resistance, and also higher strength at high temperature. the seat ring should be solid cobalt/stellite hardened,if you can make the cage seat surface hardened with alloy6, it would be better. this is a super-heated steam application, the steam can cut the metal quickly if it leaks or operating at low flow condition. 410SST is not very good for this severe process.
