What is the need for API 20 series

What is the need for API 20 series

What is the need for API 20 series

(OP)
Understand that API has recently issued API 20A, API 20B, API 20D, API 20E etc

The Need for API 20 is not understood. It just lists the material that are already in ASTM and also lists the issues that are already in ASTM

For example API 20E is for bolt and nuts for Oil field application. But when one goes into detail they list ASTM grades. The rationale behind creating more and more standards addressing ASTM requirement is not clearly understood. What exactly is the purpose of API 20 series specifications?

RE: What is the need for API 20 series

If one reads API Spec 20E, one would note that it introduces specification levels and qualification requirements. It also introduces the requirement for a manufacturing procedure specification. Does one note these same requirements in ASTM specifications?
