Transient Heat Transfer

Transient Heat Transfer

Transient Heat Transfer

(OP)
Hello,

I am trying to simulate a simple problem for transient heat transfer. I using 2D planar object with a cross section of a cylinder. Initially my body is at 300 K and then the BC are - at inner radius a temperature of 1200 K is imposed and at the outer radius a temperature of 300 K is maintained. When I run the analysis in steady state I get the expected heat temperature distribution. However with the transient analysis I believe my solution is not propagating with time at all.

1. I use a pre-defined field for specifying initial temp condition.
2. For the second step I have experimented with time period of upto 10 and max allowable increment of time as 0.01.
3. Whenever I run this analysis the only change in temperature distribution that I can see is in the elements comprising of the inner radius. The temperature of all the other elements remain same at 300K.

Can someone please help me as to where I am going wrong.

Thanks a lot

RE: Transient Heat Transfer

Run the analysis for a longer period and see if temperatures change more. Check the units you are using too.

Hey Corus,

Thanks for the reply. I double checked my units (which I believe essentially are important in the material section). And I ran the simulation for time period 100. Again no change in results. The temperature distribution in the innermost elements change within the first increment but does not budge for the remainder of them! I am really perplexed as to what I am doing wrong. Is it possible for you to have look at my cae file.

Appreciate all the help!

Thanks

RE: Transient Heat Transfer

It sounds like you've set the temperatures in the step and not the initial conditions, but attach your cae file or the inp file.

Hey corus ,

thanks for offering help. I think I found the mistake. It seems my relative dimensions of the part were not proportionate to the time period I was running. The part was too big for even a 100 time period to show any appreciable temp rise!! I reduced the size and ran again and its running fine now.

Thanks once again for the help.
