Multiple PQRs supporting one WPS for hardfacing

Multiple PQRs supporting one WPS for hardfacing

Multiple PQRs supporting one WPS for hardfacing

(OP)
I have one PQR for the PTA process with the following information: preheat- 500F; interpass- 800F; torch orifice diameter- 3/16"; powder feed rate: 11.3 g/min; travel speed: 3.75 IPM; Current: 170 amps.

Another PQR has the following information: preheat: 600F; interpass: 900F; torch orifice diameter: 1/8; powder feed rate: 15.1 g/min; travel speed: 2.75 IPM; current: 130 amps.

Am I qualified for 400F min. preheat; 900F max. interpass; 1/8" and 3/16" torch orifice diameter; both powder feed rates each +/-10%; 2.75 -10% to 3.75 +10%; and both amperages each +/-10%?

RE: Multiple PQRs supporting one WPS for hardfacing

Review ASME Section IX.

Do I need a PQR for every essential variable change, (in this case: 6 separate PQRs) or can multiple variables be changed on different PQRs and be used to qualify one WPS?

RE: Multiple PQRs supporting one WPS for hardfacing

You need a new PQR to support any essential variable change - you can't go around changing/revising PQR's. The PQR is a record of what was recorded during welding. You can generate a WPS and develop essential and supplemenary essential variable ranges for the WPS based on multiple PQR's.
