Penstock design for Microhydro

(OP)
I am looking for a simple set of formulas or program to size up pipeline diameter, flows, friction losses. Using steel pipe and HDPE.

Cheers

RE: Penstock design for Microhydro

If you are in the USA you may not be able to access this but otherwise you could try

"Internal Flow Systems" by Don S Miller, British Hydromechanics Research Association (BHRA) Information Services, 1986.

Regards, David.

RE: Penstock design for Microhydro

Hello,

For penstocks look to the American Water Works Association Standard, AWWA M-11.  Also the American Iron and Steel Institute has at leat one Penstock publication (and 3 other associated piping pubs).  Also the US Bureau of Reclamation has many publications that will provide good input for you.

Regards, John.

RE: Penstock design for Microhydro

Get "Steel penstocks" manual N° 79 from ASCE (ISBN 0-87262-951-1) (More than 400 pages). Is  quiet complete en the topic.

Good luck.
