selecting Key-points by x,y,z locations?

selecting Key-points by x,y,z locations?

selecting Key-points by x,y,z locations?

(OP)
Dear All,

I wanted to ask, Is there any way to select keypoints by giving the x,y,z locations? I have a complex geometery, on which i have to select keypoints by its locations. I know KSEL,a,LOC,x, command but with this you can only give one dimension i.e. x, y or z and its range. There is nothing like rage which i can give.

If i have the complete xyz co-ordinates of key points how i can select them in ansys model?

I ll be very thankful for your replies.

Kind Regards,

-Adil

RE: selecting Key-points by x,y,z locations?

Hello,

First, i would list the keypoints, to see which number corresponds to the ones I would like to select. Then, I would copy the keypoint numbers to a text file. If you go to the select menu, then select entities, you can select keypoint by Num/Pick. You just have to input the keypoint numbers separated by comas then apply then ok. You should have the keypoinys selected. If you want to be sure you selected them, list keypoints again. You should see only the ones you selected. If you want to select the entire model again, just go to select menu and then click everything.

I hope I have helped,

Dear Hugo Silva,

Thanks a lot for your reply. I knew this method which you told me in above. Actually I am comparing two models, One old model and another model in which i have added some extra layers for modelling of rubber and reinforcement. So now in the new models names of keypoints, lines, areas and volumes are different as compare to old model. I have the area names which i have to select from the old model but i can not select those areas in the new model whereas i know they are at the same x,y,z position (third area layer from above) but with different names. Can you help me in this regard?

RE: selecting Key-points by x,y,z locations?

Hi,

If you go to the select menu, go to select entities, then choose areas. On areas, you have some options. Try the options one by one, and at least one should work! without the ANSYS code, It´s impossible for me to help any better.

I suggest you select areas by lines, or areas by keypoints, where you just pick the keypoints, or lines that belong to the area. You should go to the old model, and see which line numbers belong to the area. But first, select the area you want by pick. Then list the area. You should have which lines belong to that area. On the new model, go to select >areas, by lines. Then input the line names.

Also, you can´t select the area by pick. Have you tried to input the area number with the keyboard? I don´t see why you can´t select the area with the keyboard if you added extra layers. I can however understand that, as the layers cover the area, you can t select it by pick. On the same window that you use to pick area, try to input the same area number than in the old model then click apply, then ok

Hope I have helped you.
Please let me know if the problem has been solved,

Hi Thanks once again.... actually i could not select the desired lines, keypoints or areas in new model because i dont know their new names and they are beneath the 3 area layers. But now, I came up with a solution... some how i managed to know the volume numbers of those.. and now i am able to select the desired areas. thanks a lot for your help. :) now i can proceed with me work further.
